Holocaust Memorial Service

Today was a really amazing day in my classroom. We have been studying the Holocaust and have read some amazing books and articles. The capstone of this learning experience was to eat bread and soup and shared diary entries that we wrote about specefic victims. Each child had a victim that they studied from the Holocaust Museums collection of factual accounts of victims. Today they found out the final destiny of their victims. Some victims passed away and some survived. The candles were all lit and as each student found out their assigned victims' fate, they either kept the candle burning or if their victim was killed they knelt down and blew out the candle and said "In the memory of...."

It was a super powerful day and I really want to share it with someone. So I share it with the internet world... and those that may be interested.
